The Cantinho Feliz Shelter / Caminho do bem

Completed project

In Brazil, we’re working with The Cantinho Feliz Shelter, a children’s home in the city of Vera Cruz, for the abandoned, those suffering family violence, and sexual abuse.

The Foundation was created on the 13th of August 2004, and can accommodate up to 20 children to the age of 12yrs, in the city of Vera Cruz. The house was granted as a usufruct for 20 years.

Financing was obtained through several fundraising events, such as typical celebrations, and donations, the money of which was used to furnish the house and buy electrical appliances.

Currently the house accommodates 23 children, and also gives assistance to another 6 children (siblings) who stay at the shelter during the day, but sleep at home. There are 8 employees voluntarily working 12 to 36 hour shifts. The children also receive psychological support as well as the support of social workers sent by the Marília Forum.

The circumstances of some of the children are the following: Alan is an aggressive child who doesn’t attend school regularly. Fazia needs psychological treatment and strong medication to control her convulsions. Não lacks social interaction and friends. Luan needs to attend a special class for children with learning difficulties. Caique’s learning difficulties are due to an earlier lack of food and water; he suffers from hypothyroidism and short-sightedness, and receives psychological treatment. Lynn was only 9 months old when she arrived with an ear infection.

Actualmente este proyecto ha cambiado de nombre, ahora se conoce como Caminho do bem.
